Thanks for your comment (I'm sorry, I don't know your name!). It is definitely true that it is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day mundanities, leaving little physical or emotional energy for much else. I too love lighting Shabbat candles, and especially now that my little girls are of an age to stand next to me as I do it. It is an incredible feeling.

I enjoyed the beautiful writing and it made me want to react to the overwork and mental fatigue that most modern women experience nowadays. As Jewish women, there are things that we can do to take a break in this crazy life and give ourselves a moment of inner peace and spirituality.

I recently discovered the wonderful feeling of lighting Shabbat candles. I lit up my first Shabbat candle 2 months ago, at the age of 26. I’m Jewish but I live a very secular life. I had no idea that lighting Shabbat candle could feel this way. Indeed, as I was reciting the blessing, I felt overwhelmed with a wonderful feeling of serenity. Now each week, I look forward to lighting the candle and retrieving this feeling.

I recommend to all Jewish women the website www.fridaylight.org. It provides a great background about Shabbat candle lighting and you can even read other women’s experiences. Go check it out, I’m sure you’ll like it too!
